Nufflenomics: Should I rush before I throw now?

Image
Not many people pass the ball (at least in Season 2 – let’s see if that changes in Season 3) but for those of us that do, we often wonder whether it is better to rush before making a pass to make the pass easier. This is a simple problem, so there’s not much to talk about. The first thing to do is to determine the difficulty of the pass before rushing and then work out how many rushes you need to do to reduce the difficulty. Remember it might be that it might still be a 6+ even after rushing. The only benefit there might be avoiding wildly inaccurate/a fumble (delete as applicable depending on the ruleset for the edition which you are playing).   The below table shows how it changes after rushes assuming that the difficulty drops when you rush x number of squares. One thing to note is that this assumes that rushes are successful on a 2+, other rushing success rates are available. What this shows is that (as should have been obvious) rushing when the pass is already a 2+ is ...

Suffolk Subterranean Showcase 3, Ipswich, 25th October 2025

This Saturday was the third Suffolk Subterranean Showcase. We made the annual pilgrimage (which is always a lot shorter than I expect it to be) to play in the event which usually falls around my birthday. This year, it was on the day itself, so I got to celebrate my birthday with a day of playing and talking about Blood Bowl. It was excellent! Now that Oli has moved to the South West, I don't have anyone to annoy with my indecisiveness so much that they tell me what team to pick. I ended up dilly-dallying to the last minute (and I generally hate dilly-dallyers) and opted for snotlings with Morg'n'Thorg.  There were a number of reasons for this:  - I'd played slann at Octogre the previous weekend which hurt my head. I wanted a team with one tactic. - I painted up a Morg model ages ago and hadn't used it. - I heard rumours of some ridiculous star builds and didn't want to get squashed by one. - All my car mates were planning on taking stunty teams (as we did on o...

OctOgre Cup 4, 18th-19th October 2025

This year was the fourth year of the OctOgre Cup, and the first without our illustrious leader EldritchFox running the show. As he has relocated, Matt (MCB_Turnogre) kindly took the lead, with assistance from me. I decided to run slann. I only decided this 10 days before the event, and Matt very kindly 3D printed me some models which I hastily painted. I've never painted a team that quickly before, and the intense painting period was actually a really good learning experience. I'm also pretty happy with how the team turned out. We ran a sevens event on the Friday night at Chaos Cards again. I was the spare player and ended up needing to step in. I took slann for this. They weren't great. They really really need re-rolls. I won't go into detail of these games as it will really be me bemoaning not having any re-rolls. I lost to Marianne (yantz)'s goblins, then Elliot (DevilEyez)'s norse and finally snuck a draw against Andy (ZarganLawful)'s black orcs. The mos...
