Backbreaker, London 13th September 2025

This was the second time I've made a Backbreaker event. My first was in 2019, when I took orcs and managed to pick up the most casualties award. This time around it was hosted at the Seven Dials club, the home of the DBL in London. It is a big bright room with a bar, and right opposite a great market for lunch.  Not knowing quite how quick it would be from St Pancras, Ross (redfacedgoose) and I arrived fairly early and helped to set up the tables - even before TO SalonTiger arrived! I decided to take wood elves. The rulespack allowed them seven skills and a good chunk of cash, so I had 2 wardancers (strip ball, tackle), 2 throwers (leader, dodge), 4 catchers (no skills) and 3 linemen (all with dodge). Thus making it a 10 dodge wood elf roster. I think this really suits my style of play. I don't tend to put skills on the catchers. If they're getting hit, most people are getting 2 dice on them anyway, and you're not hitting with them, so block isn't a great choice. Si...

Brighton Piers 2, 6th September 2025

This past Saturday was the second Brighton Piers event which is a paired tournament held at the Dice Saloon in Brighton. As with last year, myself and Damology went down as a team. We retained the Evil Dead 2 team name despite switching away from undead teams.   Damo had opted to take Norse so I went for my favourite team - Wood Elves. I don't like the tree as it doesn't fit my playstyle, so I had 2 wardancers (strip ball and tackle), 4 catchers, 1 thrower (leader) and 4 linemen (3 with dodge). There was a special rule in place for this event where two of the linemen were deemed to be best friends. Once per half, if either failed an action which would lead to a turnover, then if they were within 3 squares of each other, you could re-roll that action. I made one of my unskilled linemen the BFF of a dodge lineman and tried to keep them close, thus effectively giving him dodge as well. That was the theory - more often than not, one of them was removed immediately.  Round 1 ...

UKTC 2025, Leeds 30-31 August

Image
This last weekend was UKTC which has recently moved to Leeds. It was my fourth UKTC in a row having first gone in 2022. A write up of 2023 and 2024 events are available for your reading pleasure, which has made me aware of just how long I've been doing this. The SKABBateurs (UKTC edition) l-r eldritchfox, damology, stewbacca, cerbeross The event has been taken over by Haychdee and PunchyMcragefits and friends from Tactics and Theatrics after long time TO Pipey decided to step down from running the event. The location had been moved from York to Leeds (much of a muchness for us travel wise) which meant we were all in the same room, rather than split across 2 as previously.  The event was slightly down on numbers, perhaps due to summer holidays. I know it has moved dates a few times as well. I has previously been in January, April and also the August bank holiday weekend. Hopefully the new team will be able to get a settled date which will allow people to plan in advance and increase...
